About the department

The Department of Art provides students with a critical understanding of art, professional training in a range of artistic methods, opportunities to view traditional and contemporary modes of visual expression, and the chance to participate in competitive and professional activities.

Bachelor of Arts in Art

We offer a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Art with concentrations in:

The Bachelor of Arts degree provides an advanced undergraduate curriculum in Art with a concentration in either Graphic Design or Studio Art (Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Ceramics, Photography, and Printmaking).

Students who graduate from these programs of study are able to work across a range of media, and are especially adept at the creative process within their chosen concentration. They are well grounded in history and theory, and have had many experiences and opportunities that enable them to practice art.

Students are required to earn a minimum grade of (“C”) in all major courses. A student who plans to pursue a concentration in Ceramics, Painting, Photography, Printmaking or Sculpture must complete 12 hours of 300–400 level courses.

Minor requirements in Art for non-Art majors

The Art minor requires 21 credit hours of coursework. For an Art minor, all students must take Art 102 (3), Art 111 (3) and Art 221 (3). For the remaining Art courses (12), a student can take art studio courses, graphic design courses or a combination of art studio and graphic design courses. View degree maps.
