Dr. Preselfannie E. Whitfield McDaniels serves as the Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Jackson State University. A respected academic leader, she has dedicated over two decades of service to JSU. She joined the faculty in 1999 as an English professor and has since held roles including department chair and, most recently, Dean of the Division of Graduate Studies.

The Division of Academic Affairs oversees all academic programs, colleges, and schools at Jackson State University. We are committed to fostering an environment of rigorous scholarship, innovative teaching, and meaningful student engagement — ensuring every Tiger has the tools to thrive.

JSU is consistently recognized as one of the leading HBCUs in the country for overall academics, and our STEM programs are ranked #5 by the National Institutes of Health. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum model, students gain access to training across a variety of fields to prepare them for their next career move.

Academic Programs Across Five Colleges

Jackson State University's academic enterprise spans five colleges, an honors college, graduate studies, and continuing education — each dedicated to preparing students for careers and leadership.

College of Business
Delivers academic programs through four departments — Accounting; Economics, Finance & General Business; Entrepreneurship & Small Business; and Management & Marketing. Degrees awarded: 11% of university total.
College of Education & Human Development
Educates teachers, school leaders, counselors, and related personnel. The largest college by degrees awarded at JSU — 33% of university total.
College of Health Sciences
Prepares public health leaders and works to improve the health status of individuals, families, and communities. Degrees awarded: 18% of university total.
College of Liberal Arts
Nurtures the mind and spirit through spoken, written, artistic, and creative development for graduate and undergraduate students. Degrees awarded: 15% of university total.
College of Science, Engineering & Technology
Provides rigorous STEM education and research opportunities. JSU's STEM program is ranked #5 by the NIH. Degrees awarded: 23% of university total.
W.E.B. Du Bois Honors College
Provides an invigorating curriculum that challenges high-achieving students with enriched coursework, research opportunities, and a rigorous academic environment.
Graduate Studies
Supports prospective and current graduate students across more than 50 graduate programs, from application through graduation and beyond.
JSU Online
Degree programs and general education courses designed for busy lives — delivering quality instruction to traditional and nontraditional students without limitations of time or place.
JSU Global
Provides ongoing services and cultural support for admitted international students, faculty, and staff, fostering a globally engaged campus community.
Complete 2 Compete (C2C)
A Mississippi statewide program focused on assisting adults who have completed some college to return and finish their degrees at Jackson State University.
