The first cohort of Daniel Hale Williams Scholars at the Jackson Heart Study Graduate Training and Education Center — three Jackson State University graduate students in nursing, public health, and social work.
2013–2015 Scholars
The Daniel Hale Williams Scholar Program
The Jackson Heart Study (JHS) Graduate Training and Education Center (GTEC) is dedicated to increasing the capacity of graduate Public Health and Liberal Arts students from Jackson State University, and medical, nursing, and pharmacology students from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, to develop “the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health.”
This is done through the Daniel Hale Williams Scholar Program, which provides a certificate enrichment curriculum that runs concurrently with the student’s regular academic program. The DHWSP is a two-year mentored research training program: scholars undertake didactic training and develop a manuscript proposal using JHS data in Year 1, then submit at least one manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal in Year 2.
