The disciplines of epidemiology and biostatistics are essential to achieving the goals of public health, and combining these two disciplines in a single department creates synergies for both training and research. Epidemiologists study the distribution and determinants of health and disease in populations. Biostatisticians develop and apply statistical theory, methods and techniques to public health research data and the planning, implementation and evaluation of public health programs.
Master of Public Health in Epidemiology
The Master of Public Health Degree Program in Epidemiology prepares students for careers in research and programs such as scientific researchers, practical field investigators, health officers, research program directors and managers, and other areas of public health. Epidemiologists work closely with biostatisticians in designing and analyzing research studies. This concentration is designed for students who wish to acquire a thorough understanding of epidemiological methods, statistical principles, and computer software applications for practical fields of public health. It also offers students an opportunity to learn specific skills in designing research studies and collect, analyze, and interpret data.
