F-1 Students are allowed unique employment opportunities to pursue internships, part-time and full-time employment in the United States. F-1 students may not work off-campus during their first academic year, but may accept on-campus employment. Once an F-1 student has completed one full academic year there are several program options available regarding off-campus employment. Off-campus employment must be directly related to the students major area of study or a part of an establish curriculum and must be authorized by a JSU Global Designated School Official prior to starting any work.

F-1 student employment options are:

• Optional Practical Training (OPT) (pre-completion or post-completion)
• Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
• On-Campus Employment
• (STEM) Optional Practical Training Extension
• Severe Economic Hardship
