Army Officer Oath of Office
Upon commissioning as officers in the United States Army, graduates of Jackson State University’s Tiger Battalion swear a solemn oath to support and defend the Constitution.
Army Officer Oath of Office
“I (state your full name), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of Second Lieutenant, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God.”
A commitment to the Constitution
The oath of office is administered to each newly commissioned Second Lieutenant. It affirms an officer’s obligation to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and to faithfully discharge the duties of their office.
At Jackson State University, the Department of Military Science prepares cadets of the Tiger Battalion to earn their commission and take this oath as leaders of character in the United States Army.
